This type doesn’t exactly listen to Japanese music, but more to whatever songs happen to be part of their favorite anime soundtrack. When you ask them what groups they like you get a blank empty stare followed by “Euh… I dunno the band… but I really love the second ending song of Naruto! Kakkoii!” A few of dorks actually try to be cute and mention groups like “Asian Kung-Fu Generation” or soloists like “Koda Kumi”, but those are just names they ran across while Googling “One Piece OST Tracklist Fan Fiction Yaoi.”
These fans have learned everything they think they know about Japan from anime, but probably couldn’t even point it out on the map. If asked what regions of Japan they would be familiar with, they wouldn’t be able to mention any area that wasn’t mentioned in an anime series featuring a magical animal kingdom with tentacle rape monsters.
Don’t be intimidated! Even if they watch live-action shows these anime fans still live inside their magical fantasy bubble since they only enjoy watching shows like “Mecha-Mecha Iketeru” or “Matthew’s Best Hit TV” and have a firm belief that everybody in Japan acts like a complete moron. Granted, plenty of Jpop fans started as an anime-fan, most of them actually managed to evolve into more intelligent beings, learned how to use tools and walk upright.
Characteristics: Can’t even read basic katakana but sure know ‘big’ complex words like “baka”, “kakkoi” and “oishi”. They also enjoy cosplaying as Minimoni, which wouldn’t be so bad if I weren’t talking about the male fans.
Fun Fact: If you watch dubbed anime you are less cool than a fan who only watches subbed anime. This implies a coolness factor that can go into negative numbers.
THE PERVERT
For this kind of fan, it’s all about the girls! Music plays a secondary role; they basically like the cute underage Asian girls more than the music they release. Of course, when I say like, I mean “masturbating furiously to their images.” The easiest way to spot this kind of fan is by their avatars which usually feature some young girl in a sexy pose, their signatures are usually comprised of innuendo-laced comments which would make every female at the forum feel somewhat uncomfortable. You will also take note that their favorite girls also happen, purely by coincidence, to be the youngest ones.
Aside from the impressive collection of JAV and Hentai you will find on his harddisk, you will also find a rather ambitious collection of photoshopped pictures. These will feature the heads of underaged idols (or in some rare instances legal ones) pasted onto the bodies of nude models. Most these fans pray the FBI will forgive them because the images are fakes, but what won’t be ignored are their IM conversations with 14-year old Jpop fangirls pleading for naked pictures.
This type, surprisingly, isn’t only restricted to males, who like to “enjoy” their hobby in the privacy of their room with the doors closed and the curtains down with only an old gym sock to keep them company. The girls however have a complete lack of shame and won’t mind putting a link in their forum signature of their latest fanfiction entitled “Ishikawa and Takahashi: More than Friends”
Characteristics: Likes Berryz Koubou a little too much.
Fun Fact: You can order all 4 volumes of the Morning Musume hentai doushin “Shining” Musume on J-list….or so am I told. It involves tentacles at some point….or so am I told.
