Review: BoA - Do the Motion
DO THE MOTION, pop diva BoA’s first single of 2005, was one that definite ensured BoA’s entry into womanhood. Her 17th single boasts a new, more mature style than her previous singles, and is the young diva’s first triple A side single.
DO THE MOTION is a mid tempo jazzy song with extremely catchy backing beats, horns, basses and a little DJ scratching in the beginning. Fans of her previous work may find this song a little hard to get used to, but I can almost guarantee that it will grow on you if you listen enough. BoA’s vocals are again amazing staying strong throughout the song, and make you feel as if you’re in a jazz club dancing to the relaxing music.
The second track, With U, continues the downtemopo mood set by DO THE MOTION. The Bossa Nova inspired song is excellent track to dance to, and reminds you of listening to light music on a Sunday morning while eating in a small breakfast nook.
The third track, Kimi no Tonari de, (Next To You) is a ballad that continues along the same lines as the first two tracks of the single. Again BoA’s vocals are strong and have excellent music behind them. A full string section, drums, keyboards and a choir accompany the pop diva and create this sort of cinema-esque feeling, making you feel as if the song belongs on a soundtrack.
Overall I believe this is the best single out of BoA’s 3 year Japanese career. I prefer this smooth laid back mood over the poppy tunes that she’s known for. I hope her next original album carries these same mellow moods and is just as engaging.
