Berryz Koubou is: Saki Shimizu, Momoko Tsugunaga, Chinami Tokunaga, Maasa Sudo, Miyabi Natsuyaki, Maiha Ishimura, Risako Sugaya, and Yurina Kumai. They were seen as a group bound for failure…they were underdogs ever since the beginning. Well guess what? The girls are back, and better than ever! Their last single, “Special Generation” broke all of their previous sales records, and even managed to stay in the weekly Oricon rankings at #7! These girls never fail to impress, but how does this single compare to the rest? Read on!
The main track “Nanchuu Koi wo Yatteru You Know?” is quite different from their previous singles, but in a good way-- Berryz goes eurobeat with this single! Now I’m a huge fan of eurobeat, so this song is an instant winner. While there is your share of bad eurobeat songs, this track has a very pleasing arrangement, and the vocals sound absolutely amazing with the eurobeat instrumental. The girls have come a long way since their debut, and they certainly show it in this song with their wide range of vocals. The song contains a steady beat that will have you addicted for weeks on end!
The next track, “Yume de Do Up”, is the exact opposite, and is your typical relaxing Berryz track. This is a nice transition from the previous track, and is a great song to listen to if the eurobeat was too much for you. While the vocal arrangement could have been better, the song doesn’t fall short in any department.
The music video is a bit bland compared to their previous ones, but I still like it a lot. After all, even the simplest music video can be good if the right things are in it. The choreography is cute, and is realistic for a group of 11 to 13 year olds. I find their “free throw” dance pretty amusing. The members basically dance around an empty studio, and also talk on their cell phones. Very cute stuff!
I’m a huge fan of eurobeat, so my rating for the song might be a bit biased. If you’re a fan of eurobeat and Berryz, then you don’t even have to think twice about buying this single.
